Dr. John Rasmussen is a Professor of Medical Laboratory Science at Utah Tech University, where he has taught since 2014. He developed his interest in clinical microbiology after earning a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and working with tuberculosis at ARUP Laboratories. He later completed a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University, studying the bacterium Francisella tularensis, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Boise State University focused on nanotechnology and flow cytometry.
He has mentored many undergraduate researchers and uses a student-centered teaching approach that builds confidence, competence, and curiosity in future medical laboratory scientists. Outside of academia, he enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the great outdoors.
