Heather Osness

Heather Osness, BAS, AAS, CST, is the Program Director of Surgical Technology at Utah Tech University and President of the Utah State Assembly for the Association of Surgical Technologists. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Healthcare Administration and an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology, and she is currently pursuing a Master of Healthcare Administration, with anticipated completion in May 2026.

Heather’s teaching focuses on surgical technology, perioperative practice, and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare. Her research and professional interests include quality improvement in ambulatory surgery centers, financial and operational strategies in healthcare management, and enhancing patient outcomes through surgical technology.

Her professional journey began as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), advancing to CST Tech III at Intermountain Healthcare, before transitioning into higher education leadership. She has also served on international medical missions to Africa, experiences that continue to inspire her commitment to patient care and healthcare leadership.

In 2024, Heather was recognized with the Outstanding Service Award for the College of Health Sciences at Utah Tech University. Beyond her academic and professional work, she serves as President of the PTSA for Career Tech High School, supporting student recognition, teacher appreciation, and community engagement. She combines her clinical expertise, administrative training, and passion for service to prepare the next generation of surgical technologists and healthcare leaders.
