WELCOME TO Physical Therapy AT UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY!

At Utah Tech University, students can pursue multiple pathways into the physical therapy profession through the Associate of Applied Science Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program from the University of Utah, hosted on the Utah Tech University campus.

The PTA-to-DPT pathway offers one of the fastest ways to begin a career in physical therapy. Students can enter the profession in as little as two years through the PTA program, begin gaining valuable clinical experience as licensed physical therapist assistants, and continue building toward advanced education through the DPT pathway utilizing the DPT program on campus, or one of many PTA to DPT bridge programs across the country.

Physical therapy plays a vital role in transforming lives by optimizing movement, restoring function, and improving the human experience. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are movement experts who enhance quality of life through therapeutic exercise, hands-on care, patient education, and compassionate support. Working with people of all ages and abilities, they empower individuals to actively participate in their care and achieve their highest level of health and mobility.

OUR MISSION

Utah Tech University’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program exists to prepare students to become physical therapy care providers exhibiting integrity, skill, and caring. The program emphasizes excellence in human interaction, technical skills, critical reasoning, and life-long learning.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the successful conclusion of this program, students will be able to:

1. Utah Tech Physical Therapist Assistant graduates will be able to utilize cognitive, affective, and psychomotor interventions under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist.
2. Utah Tech Physical Therapist Assistant graduates will be able to uphold principles of ethical conduct for the PTA in all areas of practice as identified by the APTA.
3. Utah Tech Physical Therapist Assistant graduates will emphasize evidence-based physical therapy practice to drive professional growth within the profession.
4. Utah Tech Physical Therapist Assistant graduates will be able to demonstrate the skills required of an entry-level PTA in carrying out the plan of care (POC) and work as an effective member of the PT/PTA team.
5. Utah Tech Physical Therapist Assistant graduates will utilize effective oral and written communication skills with patients, their families, caregivers, other health care providers, and the community.
