What is EMS?
EMS is a vital component of healthcare, public health and public safety. On any given day, in almost every community in our nation, EMS responds to patient calls for help, 24/7.
EMS saves lives from heart attacks, strokes and drowning; treats injuries due to motor vehicle collisions, shootings, stabbings and other violence; and provides care for the myriad of other illnesses and injuries that occur daily in the United States. When the big incidents hit – whether natural (tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, pandemics) or man-made (terrorist attacks, explosions, active shooters) – EMS provides medical care and helps communities pick up the pieces.
Certificates and Degree Offered
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
AEMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. They perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance.
Paramedic
The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.
Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services
The associate degree is much broader than the Paramedic certification, providing opportunities for professional growth as well as increasing options for job placement, advancement, and career promotions.

Transfer Credits & Experiential Learning Credits
Due to the unique structure and accreditation of each paramedic program, the Paramedic Program at Utah Tech University does not accept transfer students from other paramedic programs. This includes both transfer credits as well as experiential learning credits.
