Dr. Miles Mercer is an Assistant Professor in the department of Health and Human Performance at Utah Tech University. He earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences with a specialization in biomechanics from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Mercer’s teaching portfolio includes biomechanics, measurement, research, and statistics in exercise science, introduction to exercise science, and human movement science and instrumentation.
Dr. Mercer is an educator and a biomechanist with a focus on running and walking. His work investigates biomechanical and physiological accommodation strategies to novel equipment and exercise techniques, particularly during unloaded (bodyweight supported) locomotion. His previous work has involved both healthy, and inactive participants, with the goal of improving injury prevention, performance, and exercise adherence.
Currently, Dr. Mercer is developing his biomechanics lab and aiming to expand his research beginning in 2026. He has extensive experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and is committed to integrating student involvement into both research and applied laboratory experiences.
