Online Nursing School
Many pre-nursing and prerequisite courses may be taught completely online. However, our nursing program requires students to attend classes several days per week in the Taylor Health Sciences Center at the St. George Campus. We do use the CANVAS Learning Management System as a online supplement to in-person classroom instruction. The RN-BSN program is a fully online accredited program.

LPN to RN Program
Our nursing program uses a concept-based curriculum, and students need the foundation taught in the first semester to build upon during the rest of the program. We now offer an LPN or Paramedic to RN option.
Advanced Placement
Unfortunately, we cannot offer advanced placement in our nursing program for any licenses or certifications (MA, LPN, Paramedics, or EMT/AEMT). Our nursing program uses a concept-based curriculum, and students need the foundation taught in the first semester to build upon during the rest of the program.
Night or Weekend Options
We do not currently offer nursing courses during the evenings or weekends. The BSN program is a full time, weekday commitment, but evening clinical rotations may be required.
Working Registered Nurse?
RN-BSN Program
I'm already a nurse, do you offer a BSN program online?
The UT RN-BSN Program is for you! We have a completely online program for RNs who graduated with an Associate Degree but want to advance their career by earning a BSN. For students who have completed an associates RN degree, we offer an RN-BSN option for students to receive their BSN.
Flexible Schedule for RN-BSN Program
Busy nurses need a flexible schedule! If full-time school isn’t right for you, complete our program on a part-time basis. Most full-time students complete our program in 3 semesters. A few part-time students take only one class per semester. And if you need to take a semester off, that’s fine too. Come back next semester!
Some students who already have upper division credits can complete our core curriculum in as little as 2 semesters. Check with our Nursing Advisor for more information.
Affordability
The RN-BSN Program costs remains competitive less than $10,000. Our core curriculum is only 25 credits, but some students may need additional elective credits to graduate. The faster you complete the program, the lower the cost. (See Tuition & Fees.)

RN-BSN Prerequisites
Students admitted to our program must have completed (or be completing) an Associate Degree Nursing Program. And that’s it! Students can start the program within weeks of being accepted.
Our BSN degree requires a course in pathophysiology. Students who have not completed this course can be admitted but may need extra time to complete the entire program.
- We recommend that students complete a course in pathophysiology and all general education courses prior to starting the RN-BSN Program.
RN-BSN Open Application Period
There is no deadline for RN-BSN Program application submission. Applications will be considered on a “Space Available” basis. Applications received near the start of a new semester may be held to the next starting period.
- Spring Admission – Start January or March
- Summer Admission – Start May or June
- Fall Admission – Start August or October

Pre-Licensure BSN Program
Length of Nursing School
Students who have already completed all prerequisites (about 3-4 semesters), apply to the BSN Program, and are accepted spend 4 semesters in our Pre-Licensure BSN Program in order to graduate with their Bachelor of Science in Nursing with eligibility to take the national licensing test–the NCLEX-RN.
P-BSN Prerequisite Courses
The prerequisite courses for the nursing program are listed in the catalog.
Repeating Courses
We highly discourage students from repeating courses if they have earned a grade B or higher on their first attempt. Students who have prerequisites lower than a B grade may retake the prerequisite courses to raise their major GPA.
Minimum GPA
The minimum GPA for all pre-nursing courses (referred to as a Major GPA) is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. Refer here to help calculate your Major GPA.
There is no minimum overall or cumulative GPA.

Application Process
Our application process including deadlines, timelines, and components of the application is detailed here. Application
Application Scoring
Applications are scored on holistic admissions criteria rather than just good grades and high scores on admissions testing. We consider academic performance, especially in the sciences, volunteerism, and work experience. Talk to your advisor for more specific information.
Cohort Size
We accept 48 students each fall and spring semester; this number is subject to change depending on resources and needs.
Waiting List
We do not use a waiting list. We do offer a few alternate positions to students who are well-qualified but were not able to be admitted. These students will be contacted if space becomes available for them for that application cycle.
If the semester starts and an alternate candidate is not contacted, they must reapply in the next application cycle and will be considered with that applicant pool.
RN Licensing Exam
In order to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, the application must be in conformity with the Utah Nurse Practice Act. Applicants who have been convicted of a felony, treated for mental illness, or substance abuse should discuss their eligibility status for licensure with the Utah State Board of Nursing. Utah Tech University will require all accepted applicants to complete a Criminal Background Check, a sexual offender status check, and a drug screening before acceptance into the nursing programs.
Acceptance and completion of the nursing program does not assure eligibility to take the RN Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®). The Utah State Board of Nursing makes the final decision as to whether a license will be issued to practice nursing in the State of Utah.
Criminal Background
A discrepancy on your criminal background does not necessarily preclude you from the nursing program. However, students with certain misdemeanor or felony convictions pertaining to illegal drugs or violence will not be admitted into the nursing program.
The State Board of Nursing has certain requirements that must be met before a student can obtain licensure. The background screen helps us determine if there is a possibility licensure would not be granted. Additionally, some clinical sites may not allow students with a misdemeanor or felony charge to participate in clinical.
Differential Tuition
On top of paying tuition & fees, upper division nursing sections will be the base price of either resident or non-resident tuition plus a $77 per credit tuition differential. Each semester students are enrolled in 15 credits.
